This century-old Morningside residence had been stripped to its shell and slated for an ill-fitting modern concrete-box addition. Dune took a different approach, preserving the entirety of the original structure and designing an architecturally appropriate addition at the rear of the home that feels as though it could have always been there.

The restoration went far beyond preserving the exterior. Inside, we worked to reestablish the craftsmanship that had been lost over decades of renovations. The existing walls were painstakingly releveled and refinished, while all major building systems were replaced to bring the house completely up to modern standards. New architectural details like extensive millwork, wainscoting, custom built-ins throughout and intricately detailed barrel ceilings give the interiors the richness and proportion appropriate to a home of this period. In the kitchen, hand-carved marble shelving and other custom details blur the line between architecture and furniture.
